A lesser known risk of smoking

We hear so little about bladder cancer that it is sometimes called the Cinderella cancer. But it‘s surprisingly common. In fact, 56 people in the UK are diagnosed with it each day. As Smokers, you won’t want to hear this, but at least 40 per cent of cases are caused by cigarettes.

Smoking doubles your risk. So bladder cancer is another reason you should try to stop. I’m a stop smoking hypnotherapist who would like to help you quit. But first, please read this important information about bladder cancer.

Signs of bladder cancer

For many, the first symptom is blood in the urine. A tiny glimpse of blood, just once, is easy to dismiss – but don’t! This cancer is sneaky enough to give you no more than one, brief signal. Or you might shrug your shoulders and assume the blood is associated with that urinary tract infection you’ve had – and in fact, urinary tract infections often occur when bladder cancer is present, so frequent UTIs are another warning sign. And so is the need to urinate more often or more urgently – especially if this is painful.

Why does smoking place you at special risk?

Because, when you inhale, a range of toxic chemicals enters your bloodstream via your lungs. The body does process these chemicals and tries to expel them – some in your urine, which of course is stored in your bladder. It may be far from your lungs, but smoking does carry significant risks for the hardworking bladder because it is brought into contact, perhaps for long periods, with that toxic urine. The longer you’ve smoked, the older you are, the higher the risk.

Stop smoking with a hypnotherapist

Does smoking for a long time make giving up harder? The answer is no. In a stop smoking hypnotherapy session, I aim to root out your unconscious desire to smoke so you simply won’t want to do it any more. Even people who have smoked for decades leave sessions feeling happy, relaxed and excited to live the rest of lives without cigarettes and all the associated health risks. Go ahead and book a Discovery call with me so we can work out if we’d be a good fit to work together, and if we would, we can then arrange your first hypnotherapy to stop smoking session in Camden, Holborn (Central London) or online.
